Fort Benton: Along the Historic Missouri

The only trading post that survived as a town.

Old West

Fort Benton is the oldest continuously inhabited community in Montana. Lewis and Clark landed here in 1805, opening up the territory to trappers, traders, and all the riff-raff and characters the Wild West had to offer. Fort Benton played such a critical role in the growth of the West that the entire town is designated as a National Historic Landmark.
