Grand Teton National Park in western Wyoming is a boater’s paradise. Whether you wish to explore on your own, rent, or go out on a tour or with a guide, there are several destinations to choose from.
The largest and most well-known lake in the park is Jackson Lake. With the jaw-dropping Teton Range as a backdrop, marinas are located at Signal Mountain, Colter Bay Village and Leeks. It is the only lake in the park where motorboats, sailboats, water skiing and windsurfers are allowed.
Jenny Lake is a smaller lake, but closer to the mountains. There are put-in points for kayaks on the east side. You can then paddle across and take the trail up to Hidden Falls and Inspiration Point. This is a much quieter way to access this busy trailhead, since most visitors take the national park shuttle over or hike the trail the follows the south side of the lake. Only human powered vessels such as kayaks and canoes are permitted on Jenny Lake.
